Biography

Suzanne (Sue) H Jordan a resident of Santa Fe passed away on Monday November 16, 2015 from a sudden illness. She was born in Warren Ohio on June 5, 1924 to Herbert and Martha Hansen. Sue was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Walter; brother Edward and son-in-law Matthew. Sue is survived by her son Charles; daughter Kathryn; nephew Lorren; nieces Bonnie and Debbylee; and their families. Sue and Walter moved to Santa Fe from the Reno, NV area in the 1949. Where Sue worked at Slades Dairy for a time and later worked at Santa Fe National Bank. In 1959 Sue and Walter ventured into business ownership and started a United Rentals franchise which later became Rental Services and Sales and finally becoming The Rental Place which she continued to run by herself after her husband’s passing in 1972 until she sold the business in the 1980s. Afterwards she worked with several great people as a self-employed book keeper with her retirement finally occurring earlier this year. Sue enjoyed people and made lasting friendships in all her interactions. She enjoyed cooking with her own personal touches added to every recipe she tried. She had a green thumb and always enjoyed planting tomatoes in the summer. When the children were younger she enjoyed sewing and doing puzzles with Kathryn and was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for Charles. Her house was a gathering place for the neighborhood kids and all Charles’ and Kathryn’s friends. This caring and welcoming nature extended to opening her home to those in need. Over the years, she allowed acquaintances to stay at the house until they could get back on their feet. Only asking that they contribute what they were able. Enjoying a wide range of music, Sue’s preferences ranged from Big Band to County to Classic Rock to Classical and Church Hymns. Sue enjoyed singing loud and with spirit during church service. Sue’s long passion was her focus on her spiritual growth. She began attending Unity Santa Fe in the mid-seventies and was an active driving force within the church doing what needed to be done until her passing. She served on the Board of Trustees on numerous occasions, provided a rent-free meeting space in 1986, was a member of the choir, ran the overhead projector before enhanced technology, kept track of and picked up the supplies, hosted the hospitality table, facilitated and participated in the Sunday Quest study group, and acted as church historian contacting past and present church members to faithfully document the history of Unity Santa Fe. She was a pillar of the church and community as a whole and will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday November 23rd at 4:00 pm at Unity Santa Fe located at 1212 Unity Way off of NM 599. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Santa Fe.
