Chizuko Karen Joy Tasaka
October 28, 1951 ~ January 30, 2010

Chizuko passed away peacefully at home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, surrounded by family and friends. Chizuko was a devoted Buddhist practitioner, gifted writer and poet, loving mother, and dear friend, sister, aunt, and daughter.

Survived and dearly missed by: son, Orie, mother Rose Tasaka; sisters: June (Kats) Kitamura, Eileen (Karl) Willms and Elaine Englar; nieces and nephews: Craig (Kelly), Kevin, Kyle (Monica), Kelly (Mike), Laura (Brad), Michelle and Jacquie; grandnephews and grandnieces: Drew, Natai, Tye, Katie, Fumiko, and Yuki.

Chizuko was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, and grew up in Loon Lake, Port Edward and Louis Creek, B.C. Chizuko graduated from Kamloops Secondary School in 1966. She attended the University of British Columbia, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Faculty of Education, after which she completed at Master’s degree in Sociology at the University of Alberta.

After many years of social work in Canada, Chizuko joined a Zen Buddhist monastery at Jemez Bodhi Mandala in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.

A very special thank you to Nancy David, Gigi Greco, Brenda Rivera, and Mary McClellan, members of the Dzog Chen Community, Coming Home Connection, Ambercare Hospice, and many others for their support, loving care and compassion during her lengthy illness.

There will be a memorial to celebrate her precious life in mid-March. Specific time and place to be determined.
